Island students + science = success! September 12, 2007
The 4th annual Kaua`i in STEP (KIS 4) program will take place on the island of Kaua`i during the latter part of the week of September 12, 2007. Zany science shows and interactive booths will help foster the importance of science and its applications to all of the island’s 4th, 6th, and 8th graders. Teachers workshops will also be offered on the following Saturday at the Kaua`i Community College. This effort is made possible through the cooperation of Team Tech Kaua`i, Hawaii’s Dept. of Education, business partners, and the US Dept. of Energy.
Interactive science for 3,000 So Cal students October 3–4, 2007
The 8th annual Science and Technology Education Partnership (STEP 8) in Riverside, CA will be held October 3, 4, 2007 and will feature science shows for students featuring Fusion Education Team members from Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and GA. Highly interactive booths covering biology, chemistry, physics and engineering design and implementation are also offered for all attendees. NAVSEA Corona, the US Dept. of Energy, and dozens of businesses help support this effort. For more information, please visit http://myscienceeducation.com.
Join us at the APS/DPP Meeting in Orlando November 13, 2007
The annual fall meeting of the American Physical Society - Division of Plasma Physics will once again be host to presentations and discussions on topics in the exciting world of plasma physics. The meeting will take place in Orlando, Florida during the week of November 12–16, 2007 and scientists from across the nation and around the world will discuss laser physics, diagnostics development, nuclear fusion, astrophysics, and fluids physics. Teachers from the surrounding area are invited to participate in Teachers Day workshop activities on Tuesday, November 13 and students are encouraged to urge their teachers to bring them to the Plasma Science Expo held on Thursday and Friday of that week. We will take our experiences we have gained in the Riverside, CA STEP
program and take them to Kaua'i in Hawaii for their inaugural Science
Technology Education
Partnership (STEP) program. We will provide 7 on-stage science demonstration
shows for students and others during the two day event. Stay turned for more
information regarding this special event. Future events may include teacher
workshops and a student science expo. Student and teacher preparation information

June/July
2004
Build-it Days 2004 is
a 2 day workshop designed to provide middle school and high school teachers
with the necessary knowledge and tools to bring concepts and demonstration devices
covering plasma
physics and related science into their classroom. This is a fun and challenging
workshop!
April 17, 2004
An APS/DPP follow-up workshop was held at the Explora science center in Albuquerque, NM. This workshop built on concepts
and experiences that local middle school and high school teachers gained
at an earlier set of workshops held in Albuquerque in the fall of 2003
as part of Teachers Day in conjunction with the APS/DPP meeting. Each
of the eighteen participants wound a magnetic field coil, a pickup coil,
and built a vacuum chamber and received a hand held vacuum pump. The
teachers were enthusiastic and the Explora science center was terrific!
March 12–13, 2004
Workshops
on plasma and fusion science were given at the annual SDSEA conference.
Come and visit us next year during the March, 2005 meeting.
February 18, 2004
San
Diego County High Technology Fair is sponsored by the San
Diego Science Alliance, the San Diego County Office of Education,
and San Diego City Schools. The primary goal of the Tech Fair is to
get high school students excited about math and science and encourage
them in that direction as they pursue their education goals beyond
high school.
October, 2003
27–31 American Physical Society – Division
of Plasma Physics Meeting,
Albuquerque, NM. Team members will be joined by colleagues from across
the country and provide educator workshops on plasma science and
fusion technology to area teachers. We will also take part in the Plasma
Expo, where exhibitors will be providing hands-on physics demonstrations
to students and the public alike.
November 2003
6–8 STEP 4 Conference in Riverside, CA. Team members will provide an
interactive booth for students and stage shows for more than 1800
students on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, we will provide workshops

14–15 Some of us will attend the joint meeting
of the California Section of the APS and the American Association
of Physics Teachers
(AAPT). The theme this year is “The Future of
Physics Education and the Fate of the Universe”
